Landes in “The Wealth and Poverty of Nations,” and Jared Diamond in “Guns. Germs and brace,” on what explains the go and fall of countries; he cites Doris Kearns Goodwin’s political study of Abraham Lincoln. “aggroup of Rivals,” to exposit the kind of cabinet he would want.
